Augury of the Scorpion
Graphic Novel- Writing and Design
Recently we visited the city of Khajuraho, walked around and observed the beauty of sculpting and storytelling, i.e the Western temples at Khajuraho. The concept of this graphic novel takes my audience through an experience of a story told in the first person a girl named Shanti who creates history. The story is completely written and created with love by me.
The story is set in 1130 AD Khajuraho, a city of beauty and art. The story is about the scorpion and the symbolism around it. Out of many stories and learnings that come out of the temples, one is believed to be that the scorpion’s bite is a symbol of a woman sexual desires, Slow and powerful. The story is told, keeping this context in mind. It’s about a beautiful girl, who slowly discovers herself and her purpose she carries with her.
The graphic novel solely displays the desires and power that a lady has. It shows a journey of sexual discovery and embraces the raw sexuality of a woman and the beauty that comes with it. While visiting the temples, I came across a statue of Parvati with a scorpion on her leg which was a symbol of a woman sexuality, It was one piece of knowledge that stayed with me just like the concept of Purushastras, I really was moved by these two learnings and wanted to turn it into a beautiful story with
a powerful message.
